Details
This event commemorates Lord Yoshihiro (Yoshimune), a prominent figure who returned after a difficult struggle through enemy lines. Originally started by samurai from Kagoshima Castle (later commoners after the Meiji period) on September 14th (lunar calendar), the pilgrimage aimed to boost morale and train body and mind. Participants traveled 40 km round trip clad in armor to spend the night at Myoen-ji Temple. The event is considered significant for compensating for local character shortcomings like lack of patience. Currently, the festival includes local performing arts and martial arts competitions.
