Details
The Fire Festival is held at Oka Shrine, which has been revered as the god of fire since ancient times. The event begins with the procession of the portable shrine (mikoshi) to welcome the deity back to the village from the main shrine. Rituals are conducted at the temporary shrine (otaima) to celebrate and give thanks for the autumn harvest. Key activities include the "Offering" and "Great Torches" events. The climax is the "Fire Taking Ceremony," where the fire of the deity transforms into the fire of the people. Participants who receive the fire quickly run down the stone steps and through the precincts of the shrine.
