About this event

Prayer ceremony for wisdom and academic success at the sacred hall of Monju.

Details
This event is a religious ceremony held at the hall dedicated to Monju, renowned as the "Monju of Wisdom." The principal deity is a 7-meter-tall statue of Monju Bodhisattva, created by Kaisei during the Kamakura period, which is the largest of its kind in Japan and is depicted riding a giant lion. The ceremony is cherished by children and students for bestowing wisdom and academic success. Special celebrations are held for specific ages: the "Kamidame" (hair-placing) ceremony at three years old, the "Hakama-gi" (wearing of hakama pants) ceremony at five years old, and the "Obi-togi" (tying of the obi sash) ceremony at seven years old. Participants may choose to celebrate based on their actual age or the traditional Japanese counting age system.
