About this event

Summary
Lion Dance, an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Nara Prefecture, performed during the autumn festival at Shirasayama Shrine in Uda City.

Details
This traditional two-person lion dance represents the Uda region and was influenced by the Iga region. Due to a decline in local population in the early 1950s, the youth association continued the tradition by imitating dances from neighboring areas in Mie Prefecture, specifically from Yagawa in Nabari City, Iga-Ryuko, and the Abehata district. A preservation society was formed in 1984. The dance is performed on the eve of the festival and main festival days, starting at each family's home within the district, then at the homes of the lead dancers (hon-to and so-to), before participating in the procession to the shrine. It is a designated Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Nara Prefecture.
