The festival, established in 1973, is held over two days in September and October. The first day, known as the Ogoshi no Matsuri or Shrine Carrying Festival, coincides with the annual festival of Ikebukuro Otake Shrine. The second day is the Dance Festival Tokyo Yosakoi, centered around traditional dances including Kappore, Sado Okesa, and the Ikebukuro Yassa dance. The event takes place primarily in front of Ikebukuro West Exit Station and at Ikebukuro West Exit Park. The parade features energetic shouts and a festive atmosphere. A contest is conducted during the October event. The festival aims to create a vibrant, fun, beautiful, and safe city environment.
