Details
The Yokohama Doll Museum, designed by Sakakura Associates, houses over 10,000 dolls from Japan and around the world. The museum's history began in 1978 when a private collection was donated to Yokohama City. It opened to the public in 1979 in a renovated space within the Industrial Trade Center Building. In 1986, the museum moved to its current location, formerly a tourist bus parking area. The collection has expanded through donations of valuable Hina dolls and accessories. The current exhibition traces the memories accumulated over 40 years, highlighting how the building and dolls respond with different expressions each time they are viewed. The event includes various activities such as a talk event discussing the museum's architecture, an architecture tour, an architecture exploration tour, gallery talks, and a guided walking tour exploring the area around the museum. These activities aim to connect visitors with the individual memories and history of the space.
