About this event

Summary
Autumn Grand Festival at the Historic Iwa Shrine

Details
This grand autumn festival is held at Iwa Shrine, one of the three major shrines in the Harima region, as recorded in the "Harima no Kuni Fudoki" (a historical record of the Harima Province). The festival is a time to express gratitude to the deity and pray for peace. The event includes a procession (Shinko Sai) and a return procession (Kangun Sai) where the deity is returned to the shrine. During the Kangun Sai, various portable shrines (yatai) representing traditional Harima crafts are brought together within the shrine grounds. The sight of these yatai against the backdrop of cedar trees, combined with the powerful sound of drums and chanting that fills the shrine grounds, is truly impressive and captivating.
