Details
Concept: KAGAMI is a work co-created by Ryuichi Sakamoto and the creative studio Tin Drum over the last four years of his life. It captures his piano performance in three dimensions, recreating it within a mixed reality (MR) space. The project has received significant acclaim worldwide, including performances in London, Manchester, Taipei, Singapore, Melbourne, Italy, and Hong Kong, before its Japanese premiere.
Experience: Audience members wear special transparent headsets to witness the 3D image of Sakamoto seated at an iconic grand piano. The space is accompanied by fantastical 3D visuals from Tin Drum, creating a presence so real it feels as if one could touch his white hair. This offers an unprecedented immersive experience, allowing confrontation of his refined performance from a distance impossible at a traditional concert. The venue also features "scents" created by Sakamoto to gently awaken the senses.
Content: The exhibition includes works such as KAGAMI: INDUCTION, KAGAMI: RED - COMPLETE, KAGAMI: BLUE - ESSENCE, Ryuichi Sakamoto + Shiro Takatani: TIME, TIME, Ryuichi Sakamoto: Playing the Piano 2026 – D, and Ryuichi Sakamoto: Musics - open reel listening room.
Special Programs: An exclusive event named "New Balance Day" is hosted for the next generation of creators. Additionally, a special nighttime program titled "KAGAMI NIGHT MUSEUM" is held for 5 days only during Silver Week. This program offers two ticket options: "RED" for approximately 60 minutes of the experience and "BLUE" for approximately 30 minutes. These are exclusive NIGHT MUSEUM tickets.
Accessibility & Safety: Individuals under the age of 12 are not permitted to enter. Individuals under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a guardian. The experience utilizes MR technology; while designed to minimize physical strain, visitors may experience changes in their physical condition. Special lenses are provided for those who wear glasses, though availability is limited. Re-entry is not permitted. The experience may be discontinued at the discretion of staff for safety reasons.
Reviews: The British newspaper The Guardian described the work as "A magical experience that many people may not have had the chance to experience during his lifetime." It is a quiet "mirror" that reflects Ryuichi Sakamoto's music, imbued with tranquility and profound resonance.
