Details
This exhibition is a collaborative project between the National Museum of Nature and Science and the NHK nature program "Darwin Has Arrived!" (also referred to as "Darwin's Journey!"). It presents a dynamic and immersive experience designed to introduce the adaptive evolution, survival strategies, and resulting traits of organisms. The content is curated under the supervision of researchers specializing in vertebrates, invertebrates, insects, and paleontology. The exhibition is structured into six specific chapters: "Six Senses in Living Beings," "Energy Supply: How Living Beings Adapt," "Challenges of Size: Survival Strategies," "Diverse Forms of Movement in Living Beings," "The Significance of Group Living, Learned from Nature," and "The Continuation of Life: Passing the Torch." Visitors can explore these themes through valuable specimens, documents, and videos that illustrate the mechanisms behind biological adaptation. A special feature of this event is the exhibition navigator, Masaki Aiba (also noted as Masaki Abe in some records), who has appeared in the associated NHK documentary series. An audio guide is available for visitors, narrated by Masaki Abe alongside characters named "Kujira-jii" (Whale Grandpa) and "Hige-jii" (Beard Grandpa), with special commentary provided by Tadashi Tajima, Ryoya Ide, Takawaharu Tai, and Hiroyo Namikawa. The exhibition aims to help visitors understand the ecology of living creatures and the surprising strategies they employ to survive in diverse environments.
