Moon Art Night Shimokitazawa is an art festival that transforms the city into a stage for cultural exchange and new connections. The event features approximately 100 programs over 17 days, including art, music, theater, food, and workshops. A centerpiece of the festival is Luke Jerram's "Museum of the Moon," a 7-meter spherical artwork displaying detailed images of the lunar surface, installed in the Shimokitazawa Railway Street vacant lot. Other moon-themed installations include Teppei Kaneuji's "A Thousand Faces of the Moon" on the Tohoku-zawa Station rooftop and Masahide Matsuda's emoji-inspired sculptures at Bonus Track. The festival also features an immersive theater experience called "Nekomachi," inspired by poet Sakutaro Hagiwara, which guides visitors through the city via headphones, including access to normally inaccessible railway facilities. On September 25th, a participatory choral event titled "Singing 'Moonlight' Under the Moon" takes place under the giant moon installation. The festival offers limited-time gourmet food, such as "Shimokita Mooncakes" with curry filling, and various workshops. English-language support and signage are available for international visitors. The event aims to create a boundary-less landscape where diverse cultures and individuals can interact and share experiences throughout the city.
