About this event
SummaryExperience the traditional Muromachi-period horseback archery ritual at Hori Hachimangu Shrine.
Details
This event recreates the ancient Yabusame tradition, originally established in 1439 (Eikyō 11) during the Muromachi period. Although the practice was interrupted historically, it was successfully revived in 1991 (Heisei 3) to preserve this cultural heritage. The ceremony features skilled archers riding galloping horses across a 140-meter track, shooting arrows at three distinct targets. The performance vividly evokes the elegant and refined atmosphere of the Muromachi era, offering participants and observers a unique glimpse into Japan's historical martial arts and cultural traditions.
