Summary
An esoteric Shingon Buddhism ritual where participants walk barefoot over goma fire embers to pray for health and safety.

Details
This annual ceremony is held on April 15 and November 15. It is a secret ritual where participants walk barefoot across the remaining embers of a goma fire. While the saying goes that if the mind is at peace the fire is cool reactions vary among participants. Some grit their teeth while walking others lift their feet and some try to appear calm. Anyone who wishes can participate in the fire walking ceremony.
