Summary
Tondoyaki: ceremonial bonfire of New Year decorations.

Details

Participants bring used New Year decorations, shimenawa rope, and hamaya arrows.
A massive bonfire burns the items.
A ritual is performed.
Children bang drums while shouting Tondo! Tondo!
Onlookers roast mochi in the fire.
It is believed that smoke blowing over participants brings good health for the year.
