Details
Organized by the Minato Ward Traditional Music Research Society, this event showcases the profound world of shakuhachi music in a relaxed atmosphere. The shakuhachi is a traditional Japanese bamboo flute historically played by wandering monks for meditation. The program includes solo meditation pieces, ensemble works, and adaptations of Western compositions. Notable pieces include Shika no Tōon, Kyorei, Sanan, Shin Kyokū, and Yama Koshī. The instruments vary dramatically in size and construction, from simple rustic flutes to highly polished lacquered pieces.
