Details
This exhibition focuses on seven prominent Japanese painters who represent the Adachi Museum of Art. The artists, known as "samurai" of the art world, include Yokoyama Taikan, Takeuchi Seihō, Hashimoto Kansetsu, Kawabata Ryūko, Kawai Gyokudō, Hishida Shunsō, and Itō Shinsui. These masters pioneered new techniques, such as "mōrōtai," by eliminating traditional line expressions and incorporating Western painting methods. They created innovative works that transcended traditional Japanese painting styles. The collection features pieces suited for large exhibition spaces, depicting themes like branches swaying in the wind and humid atmospheres through color variations. Visitors can appreciate masterpieces left by these reformers who faced their times and pioneered new forms of beauty.
