Details
Lake Chuzenji, located at the entrance to Okunikko, is a natural wonder with a circumference of approximately 25 km and a maximum depth of 163 meters. The lake was formed roughly 20,000 years ago when a volcanic eruption from Mount Nantai blocked the valley with lava. The tranquil lakeshore offers diverse seasonal beauty, particularly the vibrant azaleas in early summer and the spectacular autumn foliage. Visitors are highly recommended to enjoy the views from the water by taking a sightseeing boat. During the autumn foliage season, a special "Momiji-giri" (autumn foliage viewing) course is operated to enhance the experience.
