Details
The festival, also known as the Kotohira Festival or Reidai-matsuri, is a special ritual held over three days. It includes the Evening Festival (Yoimiya Matsuri), the main Annual Festival, and the Mikoshi procession. The highlight is the procession traveling approximately 2 kilometers from the Main Shrine to the temporary shrine (Otabisho). The event features a golden Mikoshi carried by male and female leaders, creating a scene reminiscent of a Heian-era picture scroll. On the 10th and 11th, the area around the temporary shrine is filled with various events and food stalls.
