Details
The festival takes place annually in October at the Myokuchi Stone Soil Shrine. Children from the town participate in the traditional Urayasu dance, dressed in attire representing shrine maidens. In the Ishine area, known as Ogō, elaborately decorated festival floats called danjiri travel through the region, stopping at local elementary schools and elderly care facilities to spread joy. In the Komatsu area, fourteen danjiri floats from the town gather on the 16th for a grand unified competition where their decorations and craftsmanship are judged. This event is referred to as a kakikurabe or a synchronized pulling and maneuvering contest. On the 17th, the festival concludes with ceremonies at Mishima Shrine. These include the Miyadashi, where the deity is brought out of the shrine, and the Miyairi, where the deity is returned. The sight of the danjiri being pulled up the stone steps is a major highlight that excites both the participants and the audience.
