About this event
SummaryAn exhibition showcasing 82 pieces of calligraphy from the mid-Ming to early Qing Dynasty.
Highlights
- First time in Japan for many selected works.
- Features diverse and unique Ming Dynasty calligraphy styles.
- Highlights the dynamic beauty of brushwork and ink.
The exhibition presents a carefully selected collection from the Ho Chuang-Shi Calligraphy Art Foundation, established in Taipei in 1995 by Mr. He Guoqing (also known as Ho Kuo-Ching and Ho Tsang-Shi). The foundation holds over 2,500 works and focuses on the rich diversity of Ming Dynasty calligraphy, which includes unique expressions and individual styles. The display covers works from the mid-Ming period through the transition to the early Qing Dynasty, a significant era influenced by masters such as Wen Zhengming and Dong Qichang. During the Edo period, the Chinese style known as Karayo gained popularity in Japan through these influences, and calligraphy from the late Ming and early Qing periods, introduced by Obaku monks, continues to be studied today. Visitors are invited to experience the artistic spirit of the time through this remarkable selection of works.
