About this event
SummaryThe 29th Akashi Noh performance aims to preserve and pass down Japan's ancient traditional performing arts, inherited since the Muromachi period, to the younger generation.
Details
The event features a performance by Zeami, a renowned playwright in the history of Noh theater. The specific play presented is titled "Yūtooru" (also known as "Yutsubushi" or "Tōru" in various sources). This piece is based on the life of Minamoto no Yoriie (also referred to as Minamoto no Tōru), the twelfth son of Emperor Saga. He is historically known as Kawara no Sadaijin and is featured in the famous "Hyakunin Isshu" anthology. The play includes a recitation of a verse regarding the camellia in Mutsu, which is said to be one of the models for the character Hikaru Genji in "The Tale of Genji". The performance highlights the cultural significance of preserving these traditions for future generations.
