Details
The Ryusei is a handmade rocket created by farmers and passed down through generations as a ritual dedicated to the Muku Shrine's annual festival. The invention of these rockets through trial and error showcases the intellectual curiosity of ancestors and holds a unique place in the history of rocketry, designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset. Young men manufacture the Ryusei, with 27 different schools or styles of construction. Propelled by their own engines, these rockets ascend to a height of approximately 300 meters. Spectators watch as dozens of Ryusei are launched every few minutes.
