Details
This autumn festival is held in the Tsukidate area, centered around the Yakushi Hall (Yakushi Temple) in the Tsukigata district. It recreates a procession from the late Heian period when a member of the Fujiwara clan in Hiraizumi prayed to Yakushi Nyorai (Medicine Buddha) for protection from a serious illness. The clan subsequently visited with family in a procession to express gratitude. The event features a grand parade through the town accompanied by warriors, monks, and mountain ascetics. Additionally, a ritual of gratitude is performed at Yakushi-zan, along with a costume parade, a portable shrine procession (mikoshi), and a dragon dance.
