Yasaka Kagura: A Living Heritage of Izumo-ryuDetails
Yasaka Kagura is a traditional Shinto ritual performance featuring music and dance, representing the Izumo-ryu style. This art form was transmitted from Kanda Myojin Shrine (Kanda Shrine) in Edo (Tokyo) to Yasaka during the Edo period. Historically, the performance served to invoke divine power, ward off natural and man-made disasters, and prevent epidemics. It was also offered as a prayer for agricultural abundance, improved productivity, and social peace. On March 22, 1973, the tradition was officially designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Utsunomiya City, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
