About this event

Summary
An exhibition exploring the original appearance of Wakayama Castle and its early lords.

Details
This exhibition showcases the initial state of Wakayama Castle as it was when first constructed in 1585. Built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi after he pacified the Kii region, the castle was ordered by his younger brother, Toyotomi Hidenaga. Although the site is now strongly associated with the Tokugawa period, its history began as "Toyotomi's Castle." The exhibition introduces the true figures of the castle's initial lords, including Toyotomi Hidenaga and Kusayama Shigeharu, through artifacts unearthed from archaeological surveys and historical documents. It illustrates the relationship between the Toyotomi brothers, Hideyoshi and Hidenaga, and the region of Wakayama, highlighting the charm of the Azuchi-Momoyama period and the depth of the area's history.
