Summary
Traditional Japanese Tondo-yaki Bonfire Ceremony where New Year decorations are burned for purification and health.

Details
From January 5th to 8th, this event involves piling offerings, sacred ropes (shimenawa), and New Year decorations into a large bonfire. Children gather around the fire chanting "Tondo, yato, ndo" while striking the ground with bamboo sticks. Afterward, rice cakes attached to bamboo poles are roasted in the flames. Consuming these rice cakes is believed to bring good health and safety for the entire year. Sweets are distributed to participating children. Old shimenawa and other items can be offered until the morning of January 5th to 8th.
