About this event
Prayer for Children's GrowthDetails
Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine hosts ceremonies to pray for the safe and healthy growth of children, rooted in traditional customs. Historically, these celebrations occurred at specific ages: the 'Kamigaki' (hair-setting) ceremony at age 3, the 'Hakama-gi' (wearing hakama trousers) at age 5, and the 'Obi-togi' (obi untying) at age 7. While the traditional date is November 15, the shrine accepts visitors daily to accommodate family schedules. Participants visit to express gratitude and wish for good health, adhering to either the traditional Japanese age reckoning system or the Gregorian calendar.
