Details
This event showcases a cherished local custom known as "Ashi-fumi Sentaku" (Foot-Stepping Laundry). Originally, residents washed clothes in the hot spring water flowing from the river while keeping watch for bears and wolves. Today, performers wear charming costumes featuring a sister's cap (an-ago) and a red waist wrap. They skillfully wash clothes using their feet in a graceful display. This practice is a symbol of Okutsu Onsen. The site was previously damaged by heavy rains from Typhoon No. 7 in August 2023 but has since been restored and reopened.
