About this event

Summary
A traditional Buddhist ceremony honoring the anniversary of the Buddha's death.

Details

The Nehan-e ceremony is held at Iwoji Temple in Kaga Yamanaka Onsen. This event commemorates the passing of the Buddha. Following the religious service, participants receive an offering of five-colored rice balls, known as dango, which symbolize Buddhist relics. It is believed that consuming these rice balls will protect the household from insect infestations for the entire year. The offering currently takes place inside the main hall of the temple.
