Details

This event takes place in a thatched-roof village located in Kyoto's Miyama area, which is registered as a nationally significant group of traditional buildings to preserve. To protect the thatch roofs, which are vulnerable to fire, fire hoses (or water cannons) are installed throughout the village. Twice a year, during spring and autumn, these hoses are activated simultaneously for inspection, creating a unique spectacle where a water arch covers the entire village. This is a rare sight that can only be witnessed during these specific seasonal inspections.
