About this event

Summary
Experience the spiritual significance of the New Year at Takatsukisama Shrine, a prestigious head shrine in Japan.

Details
Takatsukisama Shrine serves as the head shrine for approximately 400 affiliated shrines across Japan. Before the Meiji era, it was granted the title of 'Jingu', a high honor shared only with Ise and Kashima shrines. The shrine's architecture features the Gongen-zukuri style, characterized by interconnected main, middle, and worship halls. These structures boast roofs made of cypress bark that resembles deer skin, finished with a black lacquer. The grounds are surrounded by ancient cedar, cherry, and maple trees, creating a solemn atmosphere that has recently made it a popular 'power spot' for spiritual energy. During the first three days of the New Year, the shrine attracts approximately 500,000 visitors who come to pay their respects and participate in the pilgrimage.
