About this event
SummaryA cultural festival celebrating the legendary figure Benkei in his birthplace, Tanabe City.
Details
Based on the legend that Benkei was the son of the Kumano Betsu-dai, who governed the Tanabe area, this festival honors the historical figure and preserves various related artifacts. Originally established in 1987 as the '800th Anniversary of Musabō Benkei and the Kumano Water Army's Departure,' the event features theatrical performances and Benkei legends on Friday evenings. Saturday highlights include the Benkei Geta Dance, Oni Waka Taiko drumming, and the Kishu Benkei Yosakoi dance, alongside a local product market. The event concludes on Saturday evening with the Tanabe Fireworks Festival.
