Details
Kahi-kinu is a legendary silk fabric produced in the Kuno region of Yamanashi Prefecture. Originally created by domesticating imported fabrics brought by Dutch and Portuguese ships, it became a specialty during the Meiji era. Production ceased in the early Showa period. The fabric was primarily used as a lining for haori jackets. During the modern era, when people navigated the relationship between the individual and society, Kahi-kinu's diverse designs fostered a sense of individuality. This exhibition at the Yamanashi Prefectural Museum introduces the story of the Japanese self that began with linings.
