ARTE TOKYO (Tokyo International Cultural and Artistic Festival) is an inaugural festival in 2026 designed to portray the unique charm of Tokyo through a diverse range of programs including art, theater, music, illuminations, and entertainment. The festival aims to create a cultural experience where people can discover and encounter new things as they explore the city, bringing out the charm of landscapes and places often overlooked.
The ARTE Core Program features creations utilizing the unique characteristics of the three core urban spaces. Participating artists and creators span contemporary art, architecture, and media art, including Shinji Omagaki, Yoshihiro Suzuki, Takuro Tamayama, Yuko Nagayama, Soji Fujimoto, and Rhizomatiks. The project seeks to resonate with the memories of the land and the individuality of the region.
Key components include:
- Waterfront Area: Programs intersecting architecture, art, and technology using wind, light, and the waterfront environment as elements for new experiences.
- Hibiya-Marunouchi Area: Utilizes iconic streets and squares to offer a new perspective on the flow of people and urban space usage.
- Yoyogi-Shibuya Area: A vibrant urban landscape where diverse cultures intersect, encouraging curiosity and participation in a high-density space.
A special art project commemorates the first ARTE TOKYO event and the 80th anniversary of the opening of Hama-Rikyu Gardens. This special scenic spot and historic site, known for juxtaposing traditional Japanese gardens with skyscrapers, will host art installations to create new scenery, offering an opportunity to deepen interest in garden culture and history.
"Partner Programs" will enhance the festival by collaborating with leading Tokyo cultural events such as Roppongi Art Night, Art Week Tokyo, and the Tokyo International Film Festival, contributing to a vibrant autumn and winter season in the city.
