About this event

Summary
An exhibition celebrating the 200th birthday of Hiroshige II, featuring his works alongside those of the Utagawa school artists from the late Edo period.

Details

The exhibition explores the charm of unique Ukiyo-e art from the late Edo period. During this era, the art world was led by the Utagawa school, which included the "Three Great Artists of the Late Edo Period": Toyokuni III (actor portraits), Kuniyoshi (warrior prints), and Hiroshige I (landscape prints). These artists created numerous collaborative works. Following the death of Hiroshige I, Hiroshige II inherited his name and skills. He survived a time of great social upheaval. This event introduces Hiroshige II's works, the lineage of the Hiroshige family, and contemporary artists from the Utagawa school.
