About this event
SummaryA poignant performance exploring the sorrow of youth and the impermanence of life through the Satsuma biwa.
Details
The event presents two interconnected stories set in different eras. The first, "Byakko-tai," recounts the tragedy of young boys in Aizu during the late Edo period who fought on the battlefield to protect their lord and hometown. The second, "Ishiko-maru," follows a boy climbing Mount Koya to find his father, only to meet Karukaya Dojin without knowing he is his biological father. These narratives highlight the fleeting lives of youth in the chaos of war and the unbreakable bond between parent and child, even amidst a life of Buddhism. The stories are brought to life by the rich and profound sounds of the Satsuma biwa, a traditional Japanese lute.
